Shaq has OSA

Added: 21 June 2011

Recently retired, American basketball player, actor, rapper Shaquille  O’Neill, aka. Shaq has recently been diagnosed by Harvard Medical School as suffering from moderate obstructive sleep apnoea.

After his wife recognised that he not only snored excessively, but also intermittently ceased breathing, big Shaq finally succumbed to his wife’s wishes and underwent a diagnostic sleep study which revealed the 216cm tall and 147kg O’Neill was indeed suffering from moderate obstructive sleep apnoea.

Shaq and his wife spoke openly about his sleeping problems and his sleep study in a video prepared by Harvard Medical School Sleep Medicine Division entitled "Shaq attacks Sleep Apnea".

After undergoing a diagnositic sleep study Shaq was commenced on CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) treatment for his obstructive sleep apnoea and has been thrilled with his improvement in sleep quality and increased energy levels, and as an added bonus, since his snoring has ceased, Mrs O’Neill is apparently enjoying improved sleep quality now  also.
